The Union got off to a quick start and then held off a furious Storm rally to defeat the Storm 8-6. It was all Union in the first half Jahnai Raynor got the Union on the board in the third minute of the first quarter, then Ryan Nesbitt scored in the 13th minute of the first quarter and the 2nd minute of the second to give the Union a 3-0 lead. Angelo Simmons finally got the Storm on the board with a goal in the eighth minute of the second quarter. The Storm hit the post twice in the half and after one half of play it was 3-1 Union. The Storm would answer in the third. Angelo Simmons’ goal in the second minute cut the deficit in half. Lamaul Crofton answered to briefly restore the two goal margin in the fourth minute. Phil Anderson and Angelo Simmons scored less than a minute apart to tie the game at four. The Storm had a great chance moments later but Keimon Simmons would stone Anderson and Beach to keep the game tied at four after three quarters of play. Angelo Simmons scored his fourth goal of the game to give the Storm their first and only lead of the game in the third minute of the fourth quarter. It took Union less than a minute to answer. This time it was Jahnai Raynor notching his second goal and tying the game at five. Then in the 6th minute Dennis Russell, the league’s leading scorer, scored his first goal of the night to restore the Union’s one goal lead. Ryan Nesbitt scored a minute later to give the Union a 7-5 lead. Nesbitt scored and then celebrated with the crowd. Lamaul Crofton added his second in the 10th minute and it was just too much for the Storm to overcome. Raymond Beach scored off the fingertips of Union goalkeeper Keimon Simmons but the Storm could get no closer and win the ISL Championship 8-6.

Notes: The ISL now has had three different Champions. Year one the Kings defeated the Knights. Last year the Storm Defeated the Union and now the Union own the 2009 Championship. Angelo Simmons scored seven goals in the 2009 playoffs. He led all players in goal scoring. The ISL All Star Game is set for July 19th at National Stadium. The ISL all Stars will be playing the NISL All Stars. (The NISL - National Indoor Soccer League plays in the United States) The ISL All Stars will be announced on Monday. An announcement will be made next week on how the public can purchase tickets to the 2009 ISL All Star Game.
