Saturday quadrupleheader highlighted by the Knights 16 goal outburst. Kings and Knights move to a perfect 4-0
It was a busy Saturday in the ISL. All eight teams were in action. The Knights scored 16 goals against the Titans. The Storm and Knights made it two wins in two days, and could the Kings and Knights be on a collision course to meet in the ISL finals after both teams start the season 4-0?
The afternoon session started with the Arsenal getting back on track and moving to 3-1 on the year with a 6-4 victory over the Royal (1-3). The Royal struck first just three minutes into the game when Darin Dowling beat Arsenal GK Jason Smith. Arsenal Striker Cornell Castle got the goal back five minutes later, but Shannon Burgess pounced on a Smith rebound to give Royal a 2-1 1st quarter lead. The Arsenal took conrtrol scoring three goals in the second quarter. Castle scored again on a Fabian Frankson assist seconds into the quarter. Pierre Smith scored on a Frankson set up, and Cecoy Robinson scored on a nice pass from a kick in to give Arsenal a 4-2 halftime lead. Darin Dowling cut the lead to one, finishing a 2 on 1 with Anthony Burchell to make it 4-3 midway thru the third quarter. Just seconds later the Arsenal responded when Cecoy Robinson scored from a tough angle to make it 5-3 heading to the fourth quarter. Darin Dowling again cut it to one 5-4 early in the fourth. Three minutes later Fabian Frankson scored on a shootout to give the Arsenal some breathing room and the Arsenal held off the Royal from there to post the 6-4 victory. The Arsenal move one game behind the Kings and the Royal dropped to 1-3 on the season.
In game two the Kings moved to 4-0 and knocked the league champion Union to 0-4 with a 7-5 victory. Rui Furtardo and Aquino Grant scored two goals each to pace the Kings offense. Furtardo scored first four minutes in, then Shawn Fubler's boot into the Union end deflected off a Union defender and into the net to give Kings a 2-0 lead. Shakii Pearman would get one back for the Union two minutes later to cut the lead to 2-1. Furtardo scored seconds later to make it 3-1. Then :30 later Lashon Dill scored to make it 3-2. The two teams combinded for three goals in just over 1:30. Furtardo set up Aquino Grant in the 12th minute to make it 4-2 after one quarter. Grant scored again to start the third finishing a beautiful give and go with Korvon Tucker to make it 5-2. Ricky Saltus would bring the Union back scoring two goals in two minutes late in the quarter to make it 5-4 at the end of the third quarter. Lamar Crofton scored a tip-in goal midway thru the fourth, but the Union continued to battle as Lashon Dill scored in the 11th minute. The Union tried to tie it late but Kings midfielder Chris Anderson caught Union GK Treedwell Gibbons off his line in the final minute and scored from behind midfield to ice the game for the Kings. The Kings are 4-0 while the Union drop to 0-4 on the year.
The evening session saw the Storm and Knights win two games in less than 24 hours. The Storm had a tough battle before pulling away from the Apex 8-3. Meanwhile the Knights dismantled the Titans scoring an ISL single game record 16 goals in routing the Titans 16-3
In game one the Storm had a tough match with Apex. Early on it looked as though the Storm would dominate. Domico Coddington, Chris Caisey, and Kwame Steede scored 1st quarter goals to give Storm a comfortable 3-0 lead. The second quarter belonged to the Apex. Jahron Dickinson was the key. He set up Marcelos Thomas' goal midway thru the quarter, then scored a goal of his own to cut the Storm lead to 3-2 at halftime. Neither team scored in the third, and when Dickinson fired one past Daniel Adams three minutes into the fourth the Apex had pulled even 3-3. That goal woke up the Storm offense. Andrew Bascome's team scored four goals in the next three minutes to put the game away. Just seconds after Dickinson's goal Corey Dowling scored to restore the lead. Chris Caisey scored :30 later. Kwame Steede pumped in another in the 6th minute, and Grant Mckellar finished off the blitz blasting a left footed goal past Marcel Dill. When the dust had settled the Storm led 7-3. Domico Coddington scored his second goal late in the game to make the final 8-3 Storm. The Storm are now 3-1 on the year while Apex drops to 1-3 on the season.
In game two the Titans were looking for their first win of the season, while the Knights were trying to make it 4-0. Troy Lewis' Titans scored first two minutes into the game when Kyle Jones beat Thomas Smith but it was all Knights from there. The Knights would score 17 of the next 18 goals of the game. It all started with Keston Lewis' goal in the 5th minute. Kiaya Darrell delivered a perfect strike into the upper 90 from 60 feet away to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. The Knights started the second quarter with four more goals. Aljame Zuill and Vincent Minors Jr. scored seconds apart early in the quarter to make it 4-1. Ian Coke scored off of a rebound, and Lozendro Symonds scored on an assist from Vincent Minors Jr. to make it 6-1. Thomas Brown gave the Titans some hope when he scored in the final seconds and cut the lead to 6-2 at the half. Any hope the Titans had ended late in the third quarter. The Knights scored four goals in four minutes. It all started with an Aljame Zuill restart goal. Jamie Smith scored his second a minute later. Zuill set up Kaiya Darrell for his second goal, and Ian Coke finished it all off to make it 10-2 Knights after three. The only question now was the record. Vincent Minors Jr. kept the Knights goal scoring machine going early in the fourth. Aljame Zuill scored three minutes later. Keston Lewis scored his second two minutes later. Then Minors secured the hat trick in the 9th minute. Coolidge Durham then took over to set the record. Durham scored goal number 15 in the 11th minute and broke the record beating Michael Higgs in the 13th minute. The Knights broke their own single game scoring record. The previous record happened in 2007 when the Knights defeated the Arsenal 15-5. Andrew Seaman scored for the Titans in the final seconds to make it a 16-3 Knights victory. The Knights scored a combined 25 goals in two nights and are now 4-0. The Titans dropped to 0-4 on the season.
